VMAX Technologies, new simulation software for subsea operations company

2008.10.28 - Company News

Triton Group has announced the formation of a new company, VMAX Technologies, to lead the sale and development of groundbreaking simulation software for subsea operations. The rapidly growing group now has nine companies operating under the Triton brand.

Created organically from within the Group, the move underlines Triton's strategy to become a global force focused on subsea technology and added value services.

The VMAX business will operate out of Florida, Houston, Aberdeen, Macae in Brazil and Singapore, with the company expected to employ up to 30 people by the end of 2009.

VMAX Technologies' core product line is centred on physics-based simulation software and users will be able to create and test their own real-time subsea scenarios to run through projects from bid phase through to actual installation -- in a completely virtual environment. These scenarios can be used for design, training, marketing, validation and operational risk reduction.

With the launch of the new enterprise customers will, for the first time, be able to access this cutting edge 3D engineering tool which offers the most realistic scenario-based simulation currently on the market.

General manager Terry Lease said, "The goal of VMAX Technologies is simple: give the customer complete control of the simulation experience. The VMAX project simulator is designed to be flexible and adaptable to many industries and has been proven to help reduce risk, increase efficiency of operations and create an overall reduction in project costs.

"By equipping offshore operators with VMAX, companies can easily and effectively communicate using an intuitive visual 3D environment. No matter the complexity, customers can choose to create scenarios 100% in-house or opt to have scenarios created by the VMAX team."

While the company is initially focused on the ROV (remotely operated vehicle) market, the technology has the scope to be used in a wide variety of industries ranging from defence to field level offshore oil and gas projects.

Chief executive officer Martin Anderson said, "The creation of VMAX Technologies is a key milestone in our growth strategy and marks a major broadening of the services we offer to our global customer base with the innovative technology developed for use in our own systems now opened up to the wider market.

"We established Triton Group with a view to becoming a major subsea technology group and in less than a year we are well on the way to meeting that objective by creating a critical mass of subsea technology and expertise that is highly complementary."
