Neptune secures $2.5 million integrated services project on Blacktip

2008.08.04 - Contracts

Leading engineering services company, Neptune Marine Services Limited (ASX:NMS) today announced that its Integrated Project Group has been awarded a $2.5 million support contract from Dutch marine contractor, Van Oord. The scope of the project involves the provision of barge and diving support services for the pipeline shore approach activities associated with the Blacktip gas field development in the Timor Sea.

Neptune crew and equipment will be mobilised onboard the Westsea 11 barge from where the pipe pulling cable will be laid and controlled. Below the surface, Neptune divers will assist with the installation of the two 42-inch, 400 metre long pipe sleeves through which the 18 and 12 inch piggyback pipelines will be pulled.

The dive crews will also prepare the pipelines for insertion into the pipe sleeves, inspect and monitor the sleeves during pull in and assist with grouting requirements between the lines and sleeves.

The Westsea 11 is the same barge that Neptune used to provide support to the recently completed Simpson Pipeline Replacement Project for Apache Energy. A similar marine spread will be applied to this project that is expected to run through to early October.

Neptune’s Managing Director and CEO, Christian Lange, said he expected numerous opportunities for the Integrated Project Group (IPG) as recognition of Neptune’s integrated service offering increased. “This project is a perfect example of the time, cost and logistical efficiencies that can be achieved using the integrated service capabilities of the Neptune Marine group of companies. As customers become aware of the multiple services we can offer, there is also the potential for the scope of work to increase once a project is underway,” he explained.

Building on the success of the Simpson Pipeline project, Mr Lange said the IPG had a number of proposals either under negotiation or development with a range of operators and EPIC contractors.

Current project proposal scopes include the provision of project management, engineering, procurement, fabrication, dive, survey support and/or offshore marine spreads for salvage, pipeline and umbilical installation works.

“Neptune’s global presence means we are also strategically positioned to take advantage of the record levels of bidding activity for oil and gas subsea services that currently exist across the international marketplace,” he added.
