Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola (Sonangol EP) and BP Exploration (Angola) Limited today announced the Portia oil discovery in ultra-deepwater Block 31, offshore Angola. Portia is the fifteenth discovery that BP has drilled in Block 31. Full text

The Satis discovery is located in the North El Burg Offshore, Nile Delta concession, some 50 kilometres north of Damietta. The well was drilled to a Nile Delta record depth of more than 6,500 metres and is the first significant high-pressure, high-temperature, offshore Oligocene discovery. Full text

The Subsea forecast spend is a 65% increase on the previous five years to 2007. Over the next five years, in terms of regions Africa will see an increase in Subsea CAPEX to US$31bn from US$17.5bn and Asia and Australasia will see large increases in subsea spend from US$3.7bn to US$16.8bn. Full text

Electromagnetic Geoservices (EMGS) announced today that it will perform an extensive multiclient electromagnetic (EM) scanning survey to search for commercial hydrocarbon deposits in the Krishna-Godavari basin, ahead of India's 7th New Exploration Licensing Policy round (NELP 7). At 2000 km2, the survey is the first of its kind and represents a significant milestone in the adoption of EMGS's proprietary EM scanning technology. Full text

StatoilHydro has, together with the operator ExxonMobil, discovered hydrocarbons 265 miles southwest of New Orleans. "This is a promising oil discovery," says Helen Butcher, StatoilHydro’s exploration manager for deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
