The Transocean Searcher drilling rig has started drilling the first of a total of 13 production wells on the Gjøa field in the North Sea. Gjøa is located in the Sogn area. With this development, a new part of the North Sea is being opened for oil and gas production. The Vega and Vega South satellites will be developed with subsea installations and tied back to Gjøa. On Sunday, a large manifold outfitted with utility gear was lifted and mated with the third Ormen Lange subsea template at Grenland Group in Tønsberg. The enormous 44 m x 33 m x 15 m subsea station set for installation on the Ormen Lange gas field at a sea depth of 900 meters has been built at Grenland Group’s yard. Full text

Subsea 7, one of the world's leading subsea engineering and construction companies, has announced that it has successfully launched and installed its sixtieth pipeline bundle - a 1.3km pipeline bundle for BP's Machar field. Full text
BP today announced that it has successfully started production from the third and fourth wells at the Thunder Horse field with production now in excess of 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed), signalling the completion of commissioning and commencement of full operation. BP plans to start-up additional production from the Thunder Horse North field in the first half of 2009. Full text
SBM Offshore N.V. in association with its JV partner MISC, is pleased to announce that the FPSO Espirito Santo which was completed in Singapore in early November, has now arrived in Brazil. The FPSO will be hooked up to the anchoring system in 1,780 metres of water depth followed by installation of the subsea flow lines, risers and umbilicals. Stamford lies in Block 49/10c and has been developed via a single subsea production well tied back to the Venture-operated Markham J6A platform, the hub for Venture’s Greater Markham Area (“GMA”) operations. Talisman (Vietnam 46/02) Ltd. ("Talisman"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM) (NYSE:TLM), has announced first oil production from the Song Doc field in Block 46/02 offshore Vietnam.
Gross production from five pre-drilled wells is expected to reach approximately 25,000 bbls/d by early 2009. An additional three development wells are currently being drilled. Talisman's share of proved and probable reserves in the Song Doc field is estimated at six mmbbls, with proved reserves of three mmbbls.
