StatoilHydro add production to Oseberg area from satellites

2008.06.30 - Projects

"These satellites are an important part of the further development of the Oseberg area and will contribute significantly to the production in the next few years," says Morten Mikkelsen, acting
head of Oseberg production.

Oseberg Delta came on stream on Friday 27 June, whereas production from Theta Cook started on 26 June. In combination they will produce some 18,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. When well number two on Oseberg Delta comes on line in the autumn, another 7,000 barrels per day will be added.

Another deposit in the Oseberg area, Oseberg Gamma Main Statfjord, came on stream recently. In combination this adds more than 35,000 barrels of oil per day to the Oseberg area, which contributes significantly towards StatoilHydro's production target.

Theta Cook is located in the north western part of the Oseberg field, and is drilled through a long-reach well from the Oseberg C platform. This is the first well from the Oseberg field centre producing from the Cook formation. Drilled in April 2008, the well was very quickly completed, which allowed it to come on stream at this early stage.

Oseberg Delta was discovered ten years ago in the western part of the Oseberg area. The plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in September 2005. Natural gas deposits represent the bulk of the reserves, but the field's 20-metre thick oil column will be produced first. Later, the well will gradually switch to gas production.
